OUR MISSION


The mission of the Department of Nursing Education is to inspire skills in teaching and evaluation through various nursing education programmes. The department strives to support professional growth, innovation and new knowledge development within the division of nursing education with foster collaborative efforts.

WORKSHOP ON OSCE / OSPE


Department of Nursing Education (DONE), KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences, organized workshop on “OSCE / OSPE” on 13/04/2023 at DOME J N Medical College KAHER Belagavi.

Workshop started with Registration of participants at 9.00 am. The workshop was formally inducted by Prof. Veereshkumar Nandgaon, Principal, KAHER INS Belagavi, Dr. Preeti Bhupali, Dean, KAHER INS, Belagavi, Dr. Sunita Patil, Director, UDEHP, KAHER Belagavi, Mr. Namdev  Malagi, Principal, College of Nursing BIMS Belagavi (KNC Observer), Mrs. Nirmala Fernandes and Mr. Umesh Nandgaon, Incharge of DONE along with organising members, HOD’s and faculties were present for E inauguration by watering the plant. Prof. Veereshkumar Nandgaon, Principal,  KAHER  INS, in his key note address emphasized on importance of  conducting OSCE/OSPE as  assessment of clinical competency which is an essential component of health professional education in a well-planned and structured way  in new curriculum (CBNE) of UG nursing students.

The resource person for the workshop were Dr. Sunita Patil, Director, UDEHP, KAHER, Belagavi, explained need of OSCE/ OSPE in context of OBE. Dr Nayana Hashilkar, Co convenor, Nodal centre for Faculty Development NMC, Principles of Assessment with importance of validity and reliability of evaluation tool (checklist) and Dr. Padmaja R Walvekar, Former Director of UDEHP JNMC, Belagavi continued the session on Assessment of Performance of OSCE.  The participants clarified the queries with the resource persons.  All the participants visited the advanced skill lab the faculties of lab demonstrated various models and mannequins in lab.

Post lunch Dr. Deepti M Kadeangadi, Co convener, Nodal centre for Faculty  Development JNMC,  started the session at 2 pm  with Preparation of OSPE Station / Scoring checklist with  group activity among participants  on  cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains and  Dr Sheetal Harakuni, Deputy Director Academics,  KAHER. Belagavi continued with OSCE Demonstration and Discussion. The group had an opportunity to participate as student, instructors and evaluators   in OSCE lab preparing various stations and evaluation of checklist prepared enthusiastically participated in group activity.

Mr. Namadev Malagi Principal BIMS College of Nursing Belagavi, Observer from Karnataka Nursing Council (KNC) observed all the sessions during the workshop.

Faculties of various Nursing colleges from KIH and J G Co, Ghataprabha.(7) Vijaya College of nursing, Belagavi. KLES Hubli (2), KLES Gokak (3), KLES Yellur and KAHER INS Belagavi (14), (7 Nursing.

College faculties) actively participated in workshop. Total 42 Nursing Faculties benefited. The entire workshop was meticulously planned and the sessions were made more interesting by providing the hands on training and planned activities, which ensured active learner participation.

REPORT OF THE FACULTY DEPUTED FOR TRAINING OF SIMULATION BASED EDUCATION


National Reference Simulation Centre (NRSC), at SGT University, Gurugram New Delhi   organized 6-day training of trainers on Simulation based Education of 8th Batch in collaboration of Indian Nursing Council from 22/11/2021- 27/11/2021.

Four faculties Members were deputed from  KAEHR Institute of Nursing Sciences, Belagavi for the Trainers of Trainers on Simulation Based Education were Mrs. Nirmala Fernandes, Asst. Prof, Dept. of OBG Nursing, Mr. Harish Deyannavar, Asst. Prof, Dept. of Medical Surgical Nursing, Mr. Umesh Nandgaon, Asst. Prof, Dept. of Child Health Nursing, Mr. Virupakshappa Savadi, Asst. Prof, Dept of Child Health Nursing. Training of 6 days (22/11/2021- 27/11/2021) was emphasized on importance of Simulation Based Nursing Education and implications in Nursing and got hands-on Practice on the use of checklists, OSCE, and case studies in different groups.

Total Twenty-eight (28) faculty members from Government and Private Nursing Institutes across the nation were participated.

REPORT OF VIRTUAL GUEST LECTURE ON “ADVOCACY IN NURSING“


Department of Nursing Education (DONE), KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences, organized  virtual guest lecture on “ADVOCACY IN NURSINGon 25th January 2021 at KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences Belagavi. Guest speaker was Dr Shreedevi Balachandran,  Lecturer , College of Nursing Sultan Qaboos University , Muscat, Oman.

Dr Sudha Raddi , Principal , KAHER, INS ,Belagavi, Introduced Dr.Shreedevi  B. Guest speaker continued with the session with  what is Advocacy  and how it  is close to nurses heart as it helps to make right  choices and decision and maintain  nurse client relationship based on respect , trust etc.   Nurses sense of responsibility focuses on the needs of patient with  their clinical experiences and skill levels. Dr Shreedevi also told about the positive and negative consequences with lively examples the session was very interactive. Final year UG and PG students , all teaching faculties   including Nitte Usha CON Mangalore, Siddharth CON , Tumkur and Devraj Urs CON Kolar teaching faculties participated Total participants were 141 students and faculties.

REPORT OF VIRTUAL GUEST LECTURE ON “ EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND JOHARI WINDOW ” (25/10/2021)


Department of Nursing Education (DONE), KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences, organized  Virtual Guest lecture on “EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND JOHARI WINDOW ” on 25TH   OCTOBER 2021 at KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences Belagavi on Go to Meeting App. Guest speaker was Prof . Rajni Bagga, Former  Prof and Head Department of Social Sciences. National Institute of Health and family Welfare (NIHFW), New Delhi.

The session  included expanding self awareness  and building emotional intelligence  through  johari  window as one of the best approaches  and how its important among all healthy workers . The Session was very interactive with various questions from the participants. Total 139 UG and PG students including all teaching faculty from KAHER INS Belagavi.

REPORT OF FINISHING SCHOOL FOR 4TH YEAR B.SC NURSING STUDENTS (July 2021)


Department of Nursing Education (DONE), KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences organized Finishing School for Final Year B.Sc students from 29th July 2021 to 4th August 2021.

Department of Medical Surgical Nursing and Nursing Foundation Department, KAHER, Institute of Nursing Sciences Belagavi conducted sessions on Basic nursing procedures and Advance nursing procedures i.e., nasogastric tube insertion and feeding, drug administration, Intramuscular / intravascular injection and vital signs and Basic Life Support. During the skill drill session, the students were trained in groups, social distancing was maintained for demonstration and re-demonstration in Fundamentals lab and Advance skill lab. Training on NABH and infection control activities by NABH and infection control team of KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital and MRC, Belagavi.

Life skill training was conducted by NSS Coordinator Dr Ashwini N, Dr Nagaraj,   Dr Sayeed  K and Dr Snehal D trained the students  with different activities.

Career Counseling was given Virtually on  Go To Meeting  by  Mrs. Prerana Kallannavar and  Shridevi Kerimath, Study Plus, Belagavi .Total  98 students were beneficiaries.

REPORT OF VIRTUAL GUEST LECTURE ON “SYSTEMATIC REVIEW AND META-ANALYSIS" (6th FEBRUARY 2021)


Department of Nursing Education (DONE), KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences, organized Virtual guest lecture on “SYSTEMATIC REVIEW AND META-ANALYSIS ” on 6th February 2021 at KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences Belagavi on Go to Meeting App. Guest speaker was Dr. Ramesh C, Lecturer, Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal.

Introductory remarks was given by Dr. Sudha A Raddi, Principal, KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences, Belagavi, with brief introduction of Dr Ramesh C and his achievements. Sir continued the session with what is Evidence Based Practice and also how the level of evidence helps in systematic reviews with Cochrane collaboration. The heart of EBP is the systematic Reviews. Sir also explained the difference in Systematic review and Meta-analysis with all the stages and steps in systematic review and how to develop protocol, its registration, methods, methodological guidelines and also how to develop search strategy with various electronic databases. Sir also included about the selection of studies, assessment of study quality and how to assess the bias with various examples of studies.

The session was very interactive with various questions from the participants.Total 205 faculties attended from Manipal College of Nursing, UG and PG students including all teaching faculty from KAHER INS Belagavi.

REPORT OF GUEST LECTURE ON “WORK-PLACE BASED ASSESSMENT” (1st DECEMBER 2020)


Department of Nursing Education (DONE), KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences, organized workshop on “WORK-PLACE BASED ASSESSMENT” on 1st December 2020 at KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences Belagavi. Guest speaker was Dr Snehal Dharmayat, Asso Professor and HOD of Community Physiotherapy, KIPT, Belagavi. Dr Snehal Dharmayat introduced the topic, why it is important to understand the need of WPBA and how the new modalities of assessment helps the evaluation of students performance in clinical setting. The tools of WPBA are Direct Observation of Procedural Skills (DOPS), Mini-Clinical Evaluation Exercise (mini-CEX) and Case-based discussion (CbD) are some of the most commonly used methods of workplace-based assessments these can be implemented in nursing education too.

REPORT OF WORKSHOP ON “PROBLEM BASED LEARNING [PBL] IN NURSING" (11th AND 12th NOVEMBER 2020)


Department of Nursing Education (DONE), KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences, organized workshop on “Problem Based Learning (PBL) in Nursing” on 11th and 12th November 2020 at KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences Belagavi.

Workshop started  with pretest  followed E- inauguration of Programme by Dr. Sudha Raddi, Principal KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences Belagavi along with Dr Sangeeta Kharde , Programme Co coordinator , Vice Principal, KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences Belagavi, and welcoming the resource person  Dr Chetana  P.H , Associate Professor , Dr. Sudha Ambiger, Asst Professor, Dr Madhura T. K, Ass. Prof, USM KLE IMP, Belagavi with a  flower. The calendar of events of Department of Nursing Education.

(DONE) was  also inaugurated  along with  Mrs Nirmala D and Mr Umesh M N , Incharges  of DONE.

First day (11th November 2020) : Dr Chetana  P.H , Associate Professor , started the session with Introduction of PBL and Role of facilitators including Assessment of PBL. Later the   delegates were divided in 3 groups in different classrooms where the facilitators Dr Chetana  P.H ,Dr. Sudha Ambiger and  Dr Madhura T. K, continued with group activity.  PBL process was implemented in detail  with lively interactions and discussions.

Second day (12th November 2020):  The session started with group activity, each members in the group presented the assignment given. The facilitators guided the groups   very well ,cleared the doubts. Post test was conducted end of second day session.   The workshop concluded with Valedictory Programme  with  the feedback from the delegates of each group of 2 days session following with distribution of certificates to resource persons and delegates. Total 28 faculty of KAHER  Institute of Nursing Sciences Belagavi were benefited.
