SEED BALL PREPARATION BY NSS VOLUNTEERS OF KLE INSTITUTE OF NURSING SCIENCES

Date: 13/06/2019

The NSS Volunteers of KLE Institute of Nursing Sciences, Belagavi actively participated in the preparation of Seed Balls along with the Department of Forestry at Chigrimala Nature Camp Nursery, Bhutramatti, Belagavi.

As a part of Environment Enrichment Programme, around 2000 seed balls were prepared in the first cycle. Likewise, the NSS Unit has a target of preparing aroung 10000 seed balls for this season, so that they can be planted in the forest area allotted by the department, in order to conserve the nature and have more greenery which would contribute in reducing the issue of global warming.

For this noble cause, 50 NSS volunteers along with Mr. Shivarajkumar Dandagi, NSS Programme Officer and Mr. Nagaraj Bhimgol, Range Forest Officer joined hands in preparing the seed balls. On this note, Mr. Nagaraj said that today’s young generation has to be motivated and enlightened regarding various ways of contributing towards the enrichment of our environment. More and more students have to come forward and involve in such fruitful and outreach activities he mentioned.

These seed balls will sprout when the rain occurs and are the main source of reforestation. The work was highly appreciated by the Range Forest Officer, Dept of Forestry. Dr. Sudha Raddi, Dean, Faculty of Nursing congratulated the NSS volunteers and the officers for carrying out such an activity which would be a role model to others.
