Voters awareness Rally was conducted by department of Community Health Nursing along with the NSS Unit-4 KAHER institute of Nursing Sciences Belagavi from DC Office to Chennamma circle on 25-1-2021, to create awareness about the importance of voting and responsibility of citizens is voting. The law does not require citizens to vote, but voting is a very important part of any democracy. By voting, citizens are participating in the democratic process. KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences, Department of Community Health Nursing and NSS Unit-4 had conducted Health awareness programme on Prevention of Covid-19 on 7th April 2021 at Vantamuri Village, Belagavi.

Awareness programme on importance of Personal Hygiene &  Hand washing Technique,

Instruction given to the children to maintain respiratory hygiene practices in accordance to the following advice:  Do not spit in the open space, Cover both the nose and mouth with a handkerchief or tissue paper when coughing or sneezing.  Wrap up sputum with tissue paper and discard it into garbage bins with lids or flush them away in the toilet.  Wash hands immediately after contacting respiratory secretions or touching objects contaminated with respiratory secretions.  Put on a surgical mask for those with respiratory infection symptoms.

ROLE PLAY ON COVID-19 PREVENTION (11/04/2021)


KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences, Department of Community Health Nursing and NSS Unit-4 had conducted Health awareness programme on Prevention of Covid-19 on 11th April 2021 at Vantamuri Village, Belagavi.

Role play was organized by final year nursing students KAHER INS Belagavi with the objectives of  precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19,  hygiene standards like washing your hands frequently, especially if you are travalling  by public transport. Using an alcohol sanitizer, in case you are travelling to disinfect your hands, wearing a mask (cover your nose and mouth) and avoiding touching your hand or mouth etc..

The Department of Mental Health Nursing, KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences Belgaum, had organized aHealth Talkon “Alzheimer’s Diseases and its Management”for the Old age clients who were admitted in Psychiatry Ward of KLE’s Dr. PrabhakarKore Charitable Hospital Belgaum on21stSeptember 2021.

The Expert Lecture was delivered by Mr. B V Tekkalaki, Assistant Professor&Psychiatrist KLE’s Dr.PrabhakarKore Charitable Hospital Belgaum, Mr.Vereshkumar N, H.O.D Mental Health Nursing introduced the topic, Mr.GururajUdapi, Asst Prof, Dept of Mental Health Nursing briefed about nursing care of the old age clients and MrAshok Kamat, Asst Prof, Dept of Mental Health Nursing delivered the vote of thanks. After the health talkthe forum was open for queries to clear their doubts. Total 10 Old age clients were present during the session and they were also actively involved in the program and benefited.

A training programme on first aid has been organized by Department of Nursing Foundations, KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences, Belagaviat kwality Animal Feeds Pvt. Ltd, A.P. Rajgoli BK. On 18/06/2021. 20 employees of kwality Animal Feeds Pvt. Ltd, attended the training programme.

The training programme inaugurated at 10:30AM. The session on First Aid were facilitated by Mr. Ashok Kamat, HOD Nursing Foundation. Mr. Manjunath S, asst professor, Mr. Laxmikanth B, Senior Tutor, Ms. Rajashree K, Senior Tutor, and Mrs. Laxmi K, Senior Tutor, KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences, Belagavi.

The training focused on Aim of First Aid, how to perform CPR, Definition and type of Bandages, wound care, how to manage every day minor accidents and community emergencies Learn how to treat and manage minor cuts, grazes, lifting & shifting, bleeding and burns. First Aid generally consists of a series of simple and in some cases, potentially lifesaving techniques that an individual can be trained to perform with minimal equipment.

In the post lunch session, the demonstration of the first aid procedures by all resource persons.Followed by group activities by the participants.

All the expert lectures were well appreciated by all the participants who were beneficial for them in the knowledge & practice aspects in the field.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY (24/06/2021)


KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences, Department of Community Health Nursing &NSS Unit-4celebrated world Environmental day by planting trees in the college premises and KLE Campus on 5th June 2021. This year’s theme is “Reimagine, Recreate, Restore” and it focuses on Ecosystem restoration. Around 950 saplings were planted on the campus, Nightingale hostel premises & students in their Respective home towns . The Principal, faculty and students of KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences participated in this programme.

World breast feeding week is an annual celebration which is held from 1-7th August, the theme this year is “Protect Breastfeeding: A Shared Responsibility". On this occasion , KAHER INS, Department of Community Health Nursing organized health education program to encourage and explain   the importance of breast feeding along with distribution of baby clothes to the mothers at the Central bus stand, Belagavi.

AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON ANEMIA PREVENTION (06/08/2021)


KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences, NSS Unit-4 had organized awareness Programme on Prevention of anemia among adolescents on 6th August 2021 at Vantamuri Village, Belagavi.

The Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an intensive, country wide campaign which will focus on citizen participation, to be converted into a 'Janandolan', where small changes, at the local level, will add up to significant national gains. Awareness on anemia prevention & Pamphlet distribution was done by, NSS Unit-4 volunteers.

KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences Belagavi NSS Unit-4 along with Dept. of Community health nursing organized health awareness programme at Primary and higher secondary School ,Vantamuri Belagavi On the occasion of World Rabies Day on 28/9/2021, every year on 28th September also marks the anniversary of Louis Pasteur's death, who developed the first efficacious rabies vaccine. World Rabies Day aims to raise awareness about the impact of rabies on humans and animals, provide information & advice on how to prevent the disease in at-risk communities & support advocacy for increased efforts in rabies control.

AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON HAND WASHING ON “GLOBAL HAND WASHING DAY" (15/10/2021)


Each year on October 15, Global Hand washing Day highlights the importance of hand washing with soap and water at home, in the community, and around the world. Keeping hands clean can prevent 1in 3 diarrheal illnesses and 1 in 5 respiratory infections, such as cold or the flu. Keeping in view this fact.

Department of Nursing Foundation KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences, along with the NSS Unit, raised awareness among class IV workers regarding hand washing on the occasion of “Global Hand washing Day" with the theme “Our Future is at Hand- Let’s Move Forward Together".

Awareness program has been carried out through a number of initiatives, such as demonstration and re-demonstration of hand washing techniques and the distribution of hand washing pamphlets.

Total 35class IV worker were benefited by the awareness program from various constituent units of KAHER like JNMC, College of Pharmacy, Institute of Physiotherapy and VMK Dental College, Belagavi.

REPORT OF ROLE PLAY ON “AWARENESS AND PREVENTION OF FEMALE PETICIDE (11/12/2021)


Department of OBG Nursing along with NSS Unit of KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences, Belagavi organized role play on “Awareness and Prevention of Female Feticide” on 11 December 2021 at Honaga village , Belagavi.

Final year BSc (N) students organized the role play in Marathi language under the supervision of Mrs Nirmala Fernandes, Asst. Prof in OBG (N) Department. The play included awareness of the decline in sex ratio, causes and hazards of female feticide on women’s health and family and how to prevent the female feticide. Total 30 families of Honaga village were the beneficiaries of the event.

PREPARATION OF SEED BALLS


NSS volunteers and staff from KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences Belagavi took part in seed ball and sapling preparation at Jamboti, Belagavi from 21st June – 23rd June 2021 and total more than 700 seed balls & 200 saplings prepared successfully. A seed ball (or seed bomb) is a seed that is wrapped in a mixture of clay and cattle dung or compost. The cattle dung or compost helps protect the seed from predators such as birds, rodents and insects and extremes of temperature till the rains arrive. Once soaked, the seed ball will help retain and prolong a moist environment around the seed to promote germination. On the occasion of World Environment Day KAHER institute of nursing Sciences Belagavi & NSS unit-4 celebrated it by planting trees in the college premises on 5-06-2021.

SEED BALL PREPARATION BY NSS VOLUNTEERS OF KLE INSTITUTE OF NURSING SCIENCES

The NSS Volunteers of KLE Institute of Nursing Sciences, Belagavi actively participated in the preparation of Seed Balls along with the Department of Forestry at Chigrimala Nature Camp Nursery, Bhutramatti, Belagavi.

As a part of Environment Enrichment Programme, around 2000 seed balls were prepared in the first cycle. Likewise, the NSS Unit has a target of preparing aroung 10000 seed balls for this season, so that they can be planted in the forest area allotted by the department, in order to conserve the nature and have more greenery which would contribute in reducing the issue of global warming.

For this noble cause, 50 NSS volunteers along with Mr. Shivarajkumar Dandagi, NSS Programme Officer and Mr. Nagaraj Bhimgol, Range Forest Officer joined hands in preparing the seed balls. On this note, Mr. Nagaraj said that today’s young generation has to be motivated and enlightened regarding various ways of contributing towards the enrichment of our environment. More and more students have to come forward and involve in such fruitful and outreach activities he mentioned.

These seed balls will sprout when the rain occurs and are the main source of reforestation. The work was highly appreciated by the Range Forest Officer, Dept of Forestry. Dr. Sudha Raddi, Dean, Faculty of Nursing congratulated the NSS volunteers and the officers for carrying out such an activity which would be a role model to others.

NSS UNIT

The NSS Unit at KLE Academy Of Higher Education and Research’s Institute of Nursing Sciences, Belgaum was well established long back years which is leading the institute with its dedicated and young students for the benefit of the community at large. Presently the NSS unit has total 75 volunteers in the institute who are full of young blood that is lively, active, energetic and full of high spirit. The efforts of NSS volunteers have been widely acclaimed by the community, universities, colleges and general public as the NSS volunteers have been rendering selfless service to the community.

The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) which are in par with that of National NSS unit are:

  1. understand the community in which they work.
  2. understand themselves in relation to their community.
  3. identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving.
  4. develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
  5. utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.
  6. develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities.
  7. gain skills in mobilising community participation.
  8. acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.
  9. develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and practise national integration and social harmony

Motto:

The Motto of NSS “Not Me But You", reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students develop appreciation to other person's point of view and also show consideration to other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is well doctrined in this motto, which underlines/on the belief that the welfare .of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society on the whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.
